You are confusing it with the WordPress.com version.
Regarding the date on posts, it’s not an option you can turn on or off. It should appear always. Check your WordPress Install.

However, I found a flaw that would be nice if you could address. The HTML header text levels do not work correctly. H3 is great but the others do not seem to fit either size or color wise with the theme. It would be nice if you could address this.
